State Funding Stripped From Homophobic Baptist University In Kentucky
Promoting christian bigotry and hatred against Gays and Lesbians no longer pays in Kentucky. The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that public funds cannot be given to christian organizations that promote violence and discrimination against the Gay and Lesbian community.
Kentucky’s Supreme Court has ruled that a Baptist university cannot keep $11 million awarded by state lawmakers to open a pharmacy school.
A homosexual-rights group filed suit in 2006 challenging state funding for the University of the Cumberlands after it expelled a homosexual student for posting comments about his orientation and dating on the Internet.
The justices upheld a judge’s 2008 decision that the Kentucky Legislature’s appropriation to the private, church-affiliated university violates the state constitution.
A spokeswoman for the university said the ruling is a death knell for the proposed pharmacy school.
