Murdered Florida Gay Couple Had Legal Right To Kill Their Attacker
With the American economy in terminal decline, poverty and desperation are overtaking the working class. Many are turning to crime to pay the bills. Gays and Lesbians are often perceived as weak and easy targets for criminals looking to score.
Peter Serge Avsenew, the man arrested in connection to the murders of gay couple Kevin Mark Powell and Stephen Duane Adams, knew his victims. Powell and Adams were found murdered in their Wilton Manors home on the day after Christmas.
Avsenew, 26, was collared on Tuesday driving Powell’s black 2003 Saturn Vue near Dundee, Florida.
He’s being held at the the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and is expected to be extradited to Broward County soon.
“It was not a random act or a break in,” Wilton Manors police Sergeant Chuck Howard told gay weekly South Florida Gay News. “The victims knew the accused assailant.”
Many criminals target Gays and Lesbians because they view us as wealthy pacifists who won’t put up a fight. Criminals often count on the “gay fright defense” and widespread hatred of homosexuals to get them off or at least lessen their sentence if caught.
If someone kills and robs a straight couple in their home the media reports it as a horrific crime and the suspect is crucified. But if that same criminal robbed and killed a Gay couple it is portrayed as a kinky sex triangle gone wrong with the murderer softly framed as the victim.
In 2009 there were nearly 14 hate crimes committed against Gays and Lesbians every day in the United States. The majority of these crimes happen in the victims home.
It is time for Gay and Lesbian Americans to stop being the victim. If someone in your home threatens your life…you kill them!
A shotgun such as the Mossberg 500 Tactical Cruiser Pump is a great home defense weapon. It holds six shells and the short barrel with pistol grip makes it easy to maneuver in the house. Plus the sound of a 12 gauge shell being chambered is a deterrent in itself. You can usually find 12 gauge tactical Mossberg 500′s for around $350.
Florida has a “Stand Your Ground” law that allows citizens to use deadly force if threatened in their home. Powell and Adams could very well be alive today if they had only understood these rights and taken appropriate measures to defend themselves. Violence against Gays and Lesbians is increasing around the country. Understand your rights and don’t be a victim.

We used to live in Middle River terrace, which borders on Wilton Manors, The market was a moderate walk from where we lived and a short bike ride to it in WM.
I was attacked by 5-7 teen thugs for not having any $ on the way back from the store, in broad daylight.
We keep a couple semi auto pistols and a couple of shotguns.
We grew up in the mountains and were taught gun safety as kids.
I’m an ok shot, but as you said just chambering a round is threatening.
We live in rural NC, thinking it was not safe to live in the city.
We saw the crime wave and the housing boom and read the tea leaves…and left. Out here almost everyone has at least one gun.
